Deane Public Works was proud to take part in its first Adopt a School Programme in partnership with CITB Northern Ireland, marking an important step in our ongoing commitment to supporting skills development and career awareness within the local community.
As part of the initiative, we partnered with St Aidan’s High School in Derrylin, where 28 Year 11 pupils were given a valuable introduction to our company and the diverse range of career pathways available across the construction industry. The session was designed to provide real-world insight, helping students better understand the opportunities within a sector that offers both technical and professional career progression.
The event took place at St. Aidan’s using classroom and outdoor areas paired with CITB’s impressive mobile training unit, creating an engaging and interactive learning environment for the pupils. Our Apprentice Engineer, Molly, delivered a detailed and highly informative presentation, sharing her own experiences and highlighting the different routes into the industry, including apprenticeships, further education, and on-site training.
Complementing this, Junior Site Engineer Harry brought the learning to life through practical, hands-on demonstrations. He introduced pupils to key aspects of site operations, including site management processes, the use of equipment and materials, and the importance of maintaining high standards of health and safety on construction projects. This interactive approach allowed students to gain a clearer, more tangible understanding of what working in construction involves on a day-to-day basis.
The morning proved to be both enjoyable and inspiring for everyone involved. Pupils showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, actively engaging with the activities and asking insightful questions about careers in construction. Feedback from both students and teaching staff was extremely positive, highlighting the value of initiatives that connect education with industry.
At Deane Public Works, we are committed to investing in the future of our industry by supporting young people and helping them explore the wide range of opportunities available. We are delighted to have been part of this programme and look forward to continuing our involvement in initiatives that help inspire the next generation of construction professionals.
