Stage II of the A5 Strabane By-Pass, County Tyrone was a follow on Contract from the A5 Victoria Road Realignment.

The A5 serves as one of the five Key Transport Corridors and the main communications artery for a significant population; Strabane By-Pass Stage II was an integral part of the overall upgrading of this route.

The purpose of the scheme was to provide a new 2.6 kilometre single carriageway road, connecting the existing Stage 1 at Bradley Way, to join the Dublin Road, south of the Fir Trees Hotel, Strabane.

The By-Pass follows for a considerable length the route of the disused Great Northern Railway Line to the West of Melmount Road. New roundabout junctions were provided where the Bypass joins the existing road network at Bradley Way and Melmount Road.

The Works also included a new traffic light junction at Urney Road and the realignment of both Strachan's Road and Orchard Road. Pedestrian and cycle paths have also been provided on both sides of the new road scheme which included extensive landscaping to blend into the existing environment.
