Our History

At Deane Public Works, we strive to achieve Construction Excellence by delivering projects to budget, on time, defect free and exceed expectation but never at the expense of quality and craftmanship.

1967 Where it all began...

Owner and Managing Director, George Deane, had begun his early industrial experience at age 16, driving a digger on farming projects. Seeing an opportunity to develop this business, George purchased his first digger in 1966, at age 20, and was hired by the Department of Environment.

1986 Incorporation

During the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s the Company, incorporated in 1986, continued to undertake numerous works for key Clients DOE Road Service (now Transport NI), DOE Water Service (now NI Water) and Fermanagh District Council amongst others. The Company also commenced a period of rapid expansion into higher value major projects during this time, with marine and harbour infrastructure works, demolition and property development being significant areas, whilst doubling staff and recruiting key members during this time.

Continued Success

As the twentieth century drew to a close Deane Public Works, with a reputation for excellence, had extended from its Fermanagh base and was successfully completing works throughout Ireland. Under George's leadership the Company has grown steadily and significantly from humble beginnings and evolved into a multi-disciplined award-winning Engineering business successfully delivering a diverse range of high-profile Civil Engineering contracts and luxury Property Developments. The next generation of this family-run business, Stephen Deane and his wife Janet, both whom have worked for the company for over 25 years as Plant Manager and Accountant respectively, look forward to taking the Company into the future, building on the previous successes of the past 50 years. In addition, a number of George’s grandchildren have also joined the family business in recent years.

Ready For The Future

The very experienced Stephen and Janet are keen for future business growth by consolidating in existing markets, whilst further developing the award-winning Company through strategic opportunities in new markets. The future certainly looks promising with the Company appointed to a number of large Framework Agreements throughout Ireland. In addition, they are currently progressing Works on a number of existing Frameworks and Contracts for key Clients.

Company Innovation

As a dynamic company, we are continually exploring new market opportunities to develop and expand business with innovative and imaginative solutions.

Deane Public Works were the first contractors in N. Ireland to purchase an ‘Aliva’ concrete Guniting machine for a D.O.E Road Service Bridge Strengthening programme and the first to use directional drilling technology to complete a twin pipe crossing under the Upper Lough Erne which made news on BBC and UTV.

Charity & Sponsorship

Over recent years, various events have been organised by George Deane to fundraise for the local NI Children’s Hospice home in Killadeas, to include:

The multi-purpose mobile ‘Action Cancer Big Bus’ was organised for staff, family & friends providing the opportunity for free health checks.
